Bali Again? Oh Go On Then!

Ready to Bike |
Earlier this year, in February, I had the chance to return once more. This time it was for work, but I managed to extend my stay for a short holiday afterwards. Time always feels like it moves faster when you’re on leave, doesn’t it? A bit frustrating, really.
The work trip took me to an international event in Sanur, where scientists from around the world gathered to discuss sustainable palm oil research. Sanur is about 45 minutes from Ngurah Rai Airport, depending on the traffic.
The hotel was beautiful, exactly what you’d expect from a five-star resort in Bali. It had direct beach access, a large swimming pool, and an elegant ballroom that was surprisingly cold (air conditioning turned all the way up, it seems!). Unfortunately, when we arrived, Bali was experiencing heavy rain. Our plane even had to circle a few times before finally landing safely.

Days at conference |
The second day brought more rain, but luckily by the third day, the skies began to clear. I could finally enjoy the view of the beach and some lovely sunshine. The conference ran for three full days, from morning until late afternoon. On the second day, I managed to go for a short walk along the beach; still wearing my batik workwear!
On the fourth day, after the conference ended, we were invited on a cycling trip to Penglipuran Village. I hadn’t ridden a bicycle in years, so I was a bit nervous about falling or ending up sore afterwards. And yes I did fall a couple of times and moved rather slowly, but it was a great experience and a fun way to get to know the rest of the team better.
After the bike ride, most of my colleagues flew back to Jakarta. I decided to stay on a little longer and enjoy a few extra days in Bali.
During my extended stay, I visited Atlas Beach Club for the first time, it’s become quite popular lately, especially among younger travellers. It wasn’t exactly my style, but it was still a pleasant place to relax and watch the sunset. Personally, I prefer the atmosphere at Ku De Ta or Finns a bit more relaxing and enjoyable.

The simple joy of chilling at the beach |
One thing I absolutely adore about Bali? The simple joy of chilling at the beach. It costs nothing, takes zero effort, and brings maximum peace. Nearly every morning during my leave, I took a walk along the beach – Kuta, Canggu, you name it. The air’s fresh, the views are stunning, and the sunshine made me feel like a whole new person (with maybe a light tan too!).
But alas, all good things must come to an end. Before I knew it, it was time to pack up and head back to the daily grind. Fingers crossed I make it back to Bali again this year, whether for business or pleasure. Honestly, both are a win in my book.
