Enjoying Medan, Horas!

Riding in Motor Rickshaw with Boys

Hello, it's been a long time since my last write. Anyway I just wanted to say Happy Idul Fitri for all moslems around the world!

My third lebaran day, I went to Medan the capital of North Sumatera Province to shoot  Jendela Wisata Program. I'm staying there for nine days, a week in Medan and three days in Siantar; a small city that only took three hours by car.

So for this traveling episode we went to Medan Zoo at Simalingkar. This zoo is pretty huge, has 30 hectares area and there are different kinds of animals, but unfortunately the zoo was not maintained and well cared so it looks dirty and untidy. At the zoo we are shooting with animals such as golden cat, riding elephants and playing with little monkey.

Riding a Crocodile

We also visiting a crocodile park in Asam Kumbang, where there are 2800 crocodiles ranging from young to 40 year old. It was really scary when I see how the crocodile eating his prey, fast and ferocious. Now I know why men are called "buaya darat".😋

We also tried a special food that is Egypt's martabak. The martabak is unique because there is a mixture of beef and potatoes, we could also eat it with goat curry. I personally loved the food prata bread, made from flour with no content in it and eaten with sweetened condensed milk chocolate smeared on it. Yummy.. you guys should try it!

Riding a Motor Rickshaw in Medan
Becak Motor A Traditional Public Transportation in Medan

For Saturday episode we're covered the motor rickshaw, namely public transport which is very famous in Medan. In Medan is more modern motor using Japanese motor manufacturer, while in Siantar still using the traditional BSA motor output in 1940.

One night before leaving for Siantar I have felt the earthquake a magnitude 6,7  richter scale in Singkil Aceh Province. It was really scary. I woke up from my sleep at 1 am in the morning and frantically ran outside the hotel. I thought the hotel may collapse, because the vibration is quite strong. That was one of the horrific thing I've ever experienced.

Okay enough with the work talk, now I want to share the best part visiting Medan. I am so grateful for this trip was fun because the crew were very friendly, from the cameraman, the presenter also the driver was fun to be with. This certainly makes the days we pass feels fun and enjoyable.

Horas From Toba Lake

Apart of the fascinating culinary tour around Medan, our night trip to Brastagi also will not be forgotten. We have to face a heavy traffic on our way back to Medan because there is a container truck crashed.  Because of that the entire length was shut down the path and cause congestion. After three hours finally we're arrived in our hotel around 5.30 am in the morning.

After spending nine days time in Medan, finally I should go back to Jakarta, and in fact we still have to face problem. When we check in we found out that we have an excess baggage so we should bring into the cabin, and it was heavy. Not to mention the plane was delayed for 45 minutes, and the trip was a little stressful because the flight ran into turbulence several times.

Overall I am very happy to spend time in Medan, I can meet my family and meeting new people. I am very grateful to Kak Yos who helped us a lot to get the job done. Also my cousin Bang Dipo who kindly willing accompany us, and of course Bang Nanda who never complained despite having to work all day. So thanks a lot!

See u again in my next trip, hopefully it will be enjoyable as a present or even better!

Horas! 🙋
